A graduate of Rivier College with a Paralegal Certificate from Granite State College, Valerie has worked with attorneys in a paralegal capacity since 1999. She joined Oertel, Koonts & Oertel, PLLC in 2013.

When not assisting clients, drafting legal documents or maintaining reference files, Valerie enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, reading and traveling. She has one daughter, who is recently married and living in New Hampshire, and one son, a junior civil engineering major at Rochester Institute of Technology.

Dana Haynes, Guardianships and Litigation

Dana has been a paralegal in Guilford and Alamance counties since 1992.  She is a graduate of UNC-Greensboro with a major in Sociology with a concentration in Criminal Justice and a minor in Political Science.  Dana has lived in the Piedmont Tried of North Carolina her entire life.

When not working, she enjoys boating and spending time at Smith Mountain Lake with her family and friends.

In our firm, Dana assists our attorneys with guardianship and juvenile matters and with personal injury and medical malpractice claims and other types of litigation cases.

Dana was born in Alamance County and is a “local” girl.  Following her graduation from Williams High School in 1989, she attended Elon College until 1994, when she received a BA in English with a double minor in French and Sociology.  She has worked in law offices in Alamance and Guilford Counties since her college graduation and joined Oertel, Koonts & Oertel, PLLC in 2009.

As a member of Alamance Lutheran Church, Dana was seated as a church council member for a three-year term beginning in 2013. During this time, she served as Co-Liaison for the Church Property Committee. She served as Council Chairperson during the final year of her council term.

Dana has prior experience in criminal, traffic, family law and adoptions but prefers working with civil litigation matters.  Although her focus is in Small Claims, Civil District, Civil Superior and some Appellate matters, she can also navigate Criminal, Business and Federal (Bankruptcy) Courts.
